Unwrapping The Gift of Christmas

12/19/2024

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace” Isaiah 9:6

Can we imagine what the first Christmas was like as highlighted in Luke chapter 2, to what we currently have celebrating the birth of the Savior of the world. What is so inspiring is the real meaning of this wonderful season- it is all about Christ the Savior. On the other hand, what is surprising is how the name of Christ has slowly been taken out of His own celebration.

We even have many who will refuse to recognize the name of Jesus in anything that has to do with Christmas. What we find is the strong wave aimed at suppressing the true meaning of Christmas- which is impossible because Christ lives strong in everyone that has invited Him in as Savior and LORD. That glorious life in God’s people can never be suppressed, silenced or canceled.

Christmas celebration was born out of God’s love to redeem His people from eternal separation. The Almighty God gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Giving and receiving gifts is a highlight of Christmas time. Our Wonderful Gift, Jesus Christ, was wrapped with God’s unconditional love to whoever will receive Him.

With Advent coming to a close, let us unwrap the Gift of Christmas with care, reverence and worship. Let us unwrap how Wonderful Jesus has been to us, let us unwrap how Jesus has been a Counselor to us, let us unwrap in worship how Mighty our God is, let us unwrap the joy of having God as our Everlasting Father and let us unwrap the reality of peace through our Prince of Peace.

That is a lot of unwrapping to do as we bask in the Presence of God for His marvelous gift to us His people. Let us celebrate Christmas by un-wrapping the Wonderful Gift-Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord is. We wish you a Merry Christmas in different languages, from our family here at Oasis to you and yours:

French - "Joyeux Noël"

Hebrew - "Mo'adim Lesimkha. Chena tova"

Spanish - "Feliz Navidad"

Afrikaans - "Geseënde Kersfees en ‘n Voorspoedige Nuwe Jaar."

Arabic - "I'd Miilad Said Oua Sana Saida"

Italian - "Buone Feste Natalizie"

Portuguese - "Feliz Natal", "Boas Festas"

Yoruba - "E ku o dun Keresimesi"

Update: Beauty of Advent

11/30/2024

"The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel" (which means "God with us") --Matthew 1:23

This is one of the best seasons of the year! A time to focus on the meaning and purpose of Christ’s birth. With the onset of the Advent season (December 1- 24, 2024), as our typical focus during this time of the year, we are providing this resource for all our brothers and sisters embarking on Advent for the first time! This brings us great joy that you will discover Emmanuel in a personal way as you journey through this Advent season. From a time of consecration to an increased time spent in God’s Word, prayer and worship, Advent gives us the avenue to renew our minds and allow our minds to dwell on the incredible gift of salvation through Jesus Christ- who is the source of life and all eternal gifts now and everlasting.

Advent gives us the opportunity to renew our minds as believers and followers of Christ, with the major highlights from the scriptures. Here are ten scriptural examples on how critical our mindset are. Take a look at the connection to renewal, minds, thoughts and more in these scriptures:

Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Philippians 4:8 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Psalms 119:11 - Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Ephesians 4:23 - And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.

Colossians 3:2 - Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

John 8:32 - And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Philippians 2:5 - Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

1 Corinthians 2:16 - For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.

The beauty of Advent is that God births something fresh and new in you. This is one of the major reasons we love the Advent season. It gives us the opportunity to prepare our hearts, spirits, souls and lives for the celebration of Christ's birth. As we look forward to the close of 2024, let the beauty of Advent be upon us as the Holy Spirit is poured afresh upon our lives for the glory of God! Have a blessed Advent!

Repost Update: Source of Life and Prayer

11/10/2024

Picture
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." ---(Romans 15:13, NASB)

As many followers of Christ have been in deep prayer for our nation, God is showing Himself strong on behalf of those that fear Him. In a time of great deception, where many have lost the fear of God and would stoop to any level imaginable as a wolf among God's sheep, the LORD of Hosts is asking His people to see Him for who He is!

It is refreshing when God speaks and we can trace His heart and hands back to His Word and His receipts of His move among His people. With all the requests we have received, we give you the infallible Word of God, when we had similar requests back in 2019. We find our hope and the source of life in God's Word. We offer you this unshakeable hope that is still a right now encouragement for our times. As we revisit this post from November of 2019, our prayer is that the Holy Spirit would speak and illuminate the hearts and lives of His people with His timeless truth.

We receive requests from people asking how to have hope and remain with Christ during their difficult times. This scripture in Romans 15:13 was a prayer that Apostle Paul prayed for the believers in Rome to help them navigate a tough time in their culture. To lose hope is to lose meaning in life. The God of Hope is the eternal source that never runs dry. To believe in Him is to know the conduit of God’s Hope to the world-Jesus Christ our Savior. There is no other assurance for a meaningful life outside of Jesus Christ. He is the hope of the world. My beautiful wife says it so well, when she states that hope is a Person and His name is Jesus Christ. No matter what you may be going through, know that there is a way- His name is Jesus Christ. We are praying that your faith in God will not fail or be lost but grounded as God pours fresh joy and peace into your heart and life. This kind of hope is beyond the human type. It is a supernatural kind of hope that only the Holy Spirit gives. What the Holy Spirit does is always matchless and limitless. May our Lord continue to grace you with His eternal hope as you believe. God bless you!

Repost Update: Seeing God As He Is.

11/2/2024

“Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” --Psalm 34:3

A few years back during one of our ministry assignments, the Holy Spirit quickened Psalm 34:3. This is a favorite scripture to lean into at all times, especially in the times we are living in right now. As we revisit this post from November of 2015, our prayer is that the Holy Spirit would speak and illuminate the hearts and lives of His people with His timeless truth.

“How my people see me affects everything in their lives”.  - God's Voice To His People

Here are the words of admonition and challenge to us as followers of Christ in 2024  Have we made our Almighty God too small in our understanding? Psalm 34: 3 is not implying that we make God big; because we cannot make Him big. Nothing we do will ever make God big. He already is big and will always be! However, this scripture is calling us to an understanding of seeing God big. Take the example of a telescope that is used to look at a star that is way out in the sky. The telescope does not make the star bigger but it helps us to see the star big.  In similar way, we cannot make God bigger, but we are to see Him bigger, for Who God Is!

Beloved brothers and sisters, God calls us to magnify Him, to see Him big. The bigger God is seen in our lives, the greater the effect of His presence and His power that works in and through us. Come and let us magnify our God!

Lessons From Olympics

"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ" - 2 Corinthians 5:20

The 2024 Summer Olympics was highly watched around the world. With one sport or the other as a favorite, the Olympics is a source of inspiration for young and old alike. Congratulations to all teams from around the world, representing their countries. The USA team came back with a total of 126 medals- 40 Gold, 44 Silver and 42 Bronze!

For followers of Christ, there are some lessons to glean from the Olympics. In fact, the Bible uses sports as an analogy of how Christians are to live their lives. 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, states, "Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receives the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that strive for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible."

In this episode, Drs. Johnson and Feyi Obamehinti encourage followers of Christ with three key lessons from the Olympics. Walking with God requires discipline to stay deeply committed to Christ, so we can represent Christ well. It's time for followers of Christ to stand up and be counted for the Kingdom of God!

Standing In The Gap

6/30/2024

Picture
In a time when there are various agitations in our world, followers of Christ are called to stand in the gap of prayer. Ezekiel 22:30 explains this so well, "I sought for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I would not destroy it, but I found no one."

Our continuous prayer is that each believer in Christ be found building up the walls of our communities, churches and families, as we each stand in the gap of prayer for our land. Let us press into God's heart, lifting up our hearts and voices for the many needs of this hour.

Our Lord's Prayer is a model prayer for anyone to follow as a prayer guide. Simple, yet profound in it's sincerity of pouring one's heart to God. We encourage you to pray along from Matthew 6:9-13, "Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Amen!

Repost: Happy Father's Day

6/15/2024

Happy Father's Day! From Father’s Day 2015 Post: Last week, I was speaking to some young men at a local church on creating a legacy of faith in their families. After our time together, we had an impartation service and as I prayed over the men, I saw each one as valiant men possessing the heart of our heavenly Father for their families.  The men renewed their commitment as fathers. Fathers’ have a significant role in leading the hearts of their children to Christ. This is a responsibility that cannot be delegated out.

One of the things I evaluated as I prepared for the assignment were some anecdotal and statistical research that showed how a father’s beliefs are critical in passing on faith to the younger generation.  Mothers have a significant role of nurturing the hearts of their children to a place of receptivity; while fathers have the unique influence of leading the hearts of their children in response to who God is as our heavenly Father.

Here are the points I shared with the men last week; I pray every young father that reads this will be blessed and challenged to make a renewed commitment to create and live a legacy of faith in their families.

Prayer:  It is much easier to lead your children to Christ; if they see you live a life of prayer at home and not just at church or special events. Your children are your fruit inspectors. They know what is real and what is fake. Pray and read God’s word with your children. If you don’t already have one, establish a family altar in your home. This is a time you set aside to intentionally pray, read and study God’s word together as a family.

Passion: Living a life of excitement for God in your home helps your children understand that it is a privilege to be a child of God. It is not a dread to live for God. We get to have fun expressing this amazing life of God we have in Christ both here on earth and with our Lord forever.

Purpose: Whether you have come to discover this or not; God has a divine purpose for your family.  Every orchestrated step in your life; has the stamp of the living God. Once, you come to this discovery of the purpose of God; you come to a new understanding that you are a steward of God’s blessings, which include your children.

Dear brothers, this month we celebrate Father’s Day; make it a memorable one with your family. Leave an eternal imprint that will live long in your children’s heart and memories.  May our Lord continue to grace you with His wisdom as you lead your families for His glory!

A Rare Gift

5/10/2024

Thank you so much to everyone that celebrated my Beautiful Phenomenal Queen. This weekend we get to celebrate her birthday and Mothers Day! This is pronounced today more than ever! My Amazing wife is a rare gift that God has blessed me with. The mother of my daughters! I have watched her sacrifice her life for not just them, but me and everyone she invests in because she believes in people.

Our daughters would not be who they are today without her relentless sacrifice pouring into them on her knees in prayer, in life and every turn of what a godly mother is. I can still remember like yesterday, the eleven years of homeschooling our daughters and other children from other families. This woman is a superhero! She is a good friend to the Proverbs 31 woman the Bible describes. And I am a better man because of her.

We love and appreciate her immensely. And many of you know firsthand how contagious her love for God and people are. You are a witness to the Christ life in her. She is an epitome of beauty, both inside and outside. Her internal beauty shines brightly to the glory of God! And to all our beloved mothers, we salute you for serving your families relentlessly. Thank you! Mother's Day salutations do not have to end with this weekend. God Bless you!

Jesus Sacrifice: Our Transformation

3/30/2024

Easter is here! Jesus Christ our Savior is Risen! The huge sacrifice Jesus Christ made on our behalf on the cross so we could have a relationship with God, the wonderment of the power of transformation is fascinating. It is Jesus' sacrifice that made our transformation possible as His followers.

Though a gradual journey of metamorphosis, the resurrection made our change a reality. Metamorphosis quickly brings to mind the butterfly. The butterfly undergoes radical changes from starting out as a maggot to adult fly, to a caterpillar and then the final stage of butterfly.

Each of these stages is crucial to the development and growth of a butterfly. Skip a stage of metamorphosis and we have an incomplete cycle of change. This is similar to what our Savior went through during Holy Week. Good Friday could not be skipped to get to Resurrection Day. Each day of the Holy Week was necessary for our ultimate transformation.
Happy Resurrection! Happy Easter! Jesus Christ our Savior is Risen!
