Step By Step….
It’s unbelievable we are in the middle of August. My last blog was in February! Where did the time go? I will attempt to capture five months worth of reflections in this issue. By now, you know that the study on the immigrant families is fully completed through the Barbara Bush Fellowship. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have embarked on the adventure of helping build stronger families through the gift of literacy. Working with the families was one of the most rewarding endeavors I have ever done. It is not an easy task teaching anyone how to read and write, no matter the age, however the results are really worth it all. The “light” in the eyes of each participant in the study spoke millions at the end of the study.The families are continuing their quest for learning by exploring their areas of interest and building upon what they have learned so far. The thought of owning their own learning process makes me very happy!!
The major part of the study was the reporting aspect, which involved documenting all aspects of the study to disseminate to various outlets that would benefit from the findings of the study. As easy as it may sound, documenting the research was not a piece of cake. It involved hours of analyzing data, looking for patterns/trends and making inferences based on the acquired data. All reports have been completed, manuscripts submitted and findings shared with viable organizations that can utilize the findings within their communities. It’s a great feeling- mission accomplished!!
I am blessed with the most incredible husband in the world, his support and encouragement are phenomenal. Blessed with the most understanding daughters any mother could ask for, who help with my administrative tasks. Blessed with the most fun friends any one could ask for- they ensure I play just as much as I work. Summer time has been filled with travels and enriching time with guests from all areas of our lives-family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.
Fully energized for upcoming months- my doctoral journey is gradually coming to the most exciting phase. This fall, I have the great opportunity to team up with a Christian School in researching and evaluating their Character Building program. I am stoked with great excitement for many reasons. Two reasons that stand out are; one, the entire faculty are passionate about equipping students for service with excellence and two, the Character Building program is going into 6 public schools this fall. Loving each step of the journey and amazed by the goodness of God!
