I am writing a second post in one week! Tis the season for celebration in our tribe!
You know that feeling of exuberant joy that fills you up so much and you bubble over? Bubbling all over and savoring every single moment. The words “thankful”, “grateful” seem small to fully describe my gratitude to God. Thankful, proud wife and momma moments!
The Irresistible Prayer School (based on my husband’s book The Power of Irresistible Prayer) launches this weekend in Nigeria, Africa. Today, Friday, May 10, our oldest 22 year old daughter graduates with her Masters in Strategic Communications from UNT. Saturday, May 11, our 20 year old second daughter graduates from Rice University with double majors in Biological Sciences and French Studies, in addition to completing medical school applications. Saturday, May 11, our youngest 18 year old daughter completes her sophomore year at SMU and prepares for summer internship in Bali, Indonesia. Saturday, my birthday and I have been celebrating all week too. Sunday, May 12, is Mother’s Day. Only God could orchestrate things like that! To Him be all the glory!!! What an amazing God!!
Celebration is a special time with family and friends. It’s a time of thanksgiving. It’s a time of reflection. It’s a time of laughter. It’s a time of great fun. It’s a time of reunion with long seen relatives and friends. It’s a time of jubilation.
When I think of all these celebrations, one thing stands out in making it all happen by the design of God. None of the celebrations will be possible, if we did not have fathers and mothers. Since its Mother’s Day weekend, I’m focusing on mothers. (Interested in Fathers? Check out my husband latest blog post http://goo.gl/YHcW8 Heart of Fathering). Mothers are God’s angels on assignment here on earth. Mothers are on call 24/7, never off. Before anyone of us ever stepped into a classroom, mothers were the first teacher every child had. Teachers wear so many hats and their value to our world cannot be substituted. Have you ever imagined what our world would be without teachers? Every lawyer, missionary, doctor, nurse etc were taught by a teacher.
Our mothers teach directly and indirectly. Mothers teach us those first words, first sentence, those first steps. Mothers undertake with confidence and doubt (at the same time) the first training in a child’s life – potty training. God created mothers with a special anointing to love and nurture. I have been blessed to have, not just my natural mother, mother-in love, aunts, and grandmothers from both sides of my family but also spiritual mothers and big sisters. It took each of their love, care, prayers, teachings, investment, guidance, and contribution to be who I am today. It is said, that once a mother, always a mother. Recently, on a trip to Eastern Europe last month, my mother called and texted every day, not just me, but my husband too. What makes a mother care so much even for her adult child(ren)? I believe it is God’s design. He created mothers (woman) with a distinction different from fathers (man). God created male and female (Gen 1:27) for a reason. He is a master architect with a definite purpose in mind.
I am also blessed to be the mother to three adorable, beautiful, Holy Spirit led, young women. Each one different according to their God design and purpose. They bring my husband and I so much joy. They are loving, sweet, graceful, funny, wise, smart, and brutally honest. If you’re not ready for an authentic answer it’s better not to ask any of them a question. I love their boldness for Jesus and how it is tempered with love and grace. They make parenting look so easy. This mother’s day, I am deeply grateful for the many blessings of being their mother. My cup is running over and my heart is overflowing with gratitude and satisfaction of seeing godly fruit in their lives.
Our celebration of our angels-mothers, should not stop after this weekend. But this weekend, you get an opportunity to let your mother know how special she is to you. Celebrating your mother doesn’t have to take you into debt. Sometimes, your presence is a great gift to your mother. And for all those that their mothers have passed on to heaven, celebrate the cherished memories you carry with you. Let those memories strengthen you and bring you to a rich place of gratitude rather than sorrow for missing her. To all my dear amazing mothers: Happy Mother’s Day, you’re priceless. Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate! Enjoy your day to the fullest. You have every reason to.
