Repost: Revival On Our Terms

9/29/2017

Howdy Friends!

I pray this clarion call repost from the man of God blesses you in every way.  Love & Blessings!

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land" 2 Chronicles 7:14

Beloved brothers and sisters, the Sovereign God has placed His children in the ripe atmosphere for His glory to be revealed. With so much happening simultaneously in the world, we see a surge of souls coming to the Lord. We are seeing unbelievers coming to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are seeing the trickle of the blessings of revival. Yet, there is a deeper well of revival that many intercessors have prayed to see in this dispensation of an unprecedented outpour of God’s spirit.

In the last few months not just here in our nation but around the world, we have seen an explosion of human depravation, division, decadence and degeneration. We see a groaning of the earth for the manifestation of the children of God. All signs point to the ripening state for revival. A renewal of spiritual life among God’s children. An awakening to the reverence of the Almighty God in the affairs of men. A commitment to the heart of God on His terms. A renewed awareness of God’s Presence. A Holy adoration and settling of the Glorious One on His children.

I am talking about revival! Revival in our hearts. Revival in our souls. A yearning in our spirit after what pleases the Holy Spirit. A yearning that desires to see heaven invade earth through God’s children. Revival that is widespread from coast to coast and unlimited. Is such even possible? Yes it is very possible. Jesus gave us a preview into what it will take to have such. In Matthew 16:24, Jesus talks about the cost of following Him.
A cost that involves denying self and taking up our crosses. This looks different for every follower of Jesus. However, at the core of living for Jesus Christ is a corresponding change that draws people to Him and not away. We become that pleasing aroma of Christ to a dying world (2 Corinthians 2:15).

Matthew 16:24: Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."

Revival can only come on God’s terms and not ours. He has instructed us what it will take to experience this unprecedented outpour of His spirit. He calls us to come on His terms. He is more than ready for His people to experience one of the greatest dimensions of His essence. He tells His sons and daughters in 2 Chronicles 7:14, exactly what His terms and conditions are.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land".

  • He needs us to humble ourselves
  • He needs us to pray and seek His face
  • He needs us to turn from our wicked ways
  • He promises to hear from heaven
  • He promises to forgive our sin
  • He promises to heal our land

We know our land needs healing. This healing will only come on God’s terms and not our terms. We know the body of our Lord needs revival. This revival will come on God’s terms and not our terms. It is time to seek the LORD on His terms. Beloved brothers and sisters, God is calling us deeper and higher. We are in critical times, let’s answer His call.  May God continue to bless you!

It is amazing the lessons we can learn cross-culturally by studying scripture with cross-cultural eyes.  Today let’s look at the story of Ruth especially focusing on Ruth 2:15-16.

We know the story of Ruth.  Her husband dies and his brother dies and Naomi, her mother- in- law decides to go back to her homeland of Judah.  One daughter-in-law stays with her family in Moab but Ruth goes back with Naomi to a land where she is a foreigner, an immigrant.  We are not told any reason for Ruth’s decision to leave her home and go with Naomi except her love of Naomi and her commitment to her as her new family. When they arrive in Bethlehem, Ruth goes into the fields of Naomi’s kinsman to glean wheat so that she and Naomi could eat.  Boaz notices her and talks with her.  He is kind and allows her to glean behind the reapers and even drink of the water his workers drink.  But he does one more thing I find both curious and insightful.  In chapter 2 verses 15-16, he asks the reapers to pull handfuls of grain and leave it for her to gather.

Wouldn’t it have been easier and wouldn’t Boaz have seemed even more generous and gracious if he had just given her the wheat and sent her home.  She would not have had to work in the fields from sun up to sun down, she would have known he was taking care of her and been even more grateful for his generosity.  But he didn’t.  And why he didn’t is a lesson for us all.

Whether Boaz knew it or not his decision to let Ruth work for the grain rather than just having it given to her was as big a gift as the wheat.  Ruth needed her self-esteem and self worth as much as she needed food.  To have given her the wheat would have robbed her of that and would have made her totally reliant and indebted to Boaz.  Boaz chose to do what was best for Ruth instead of what was easiest or more gratifying for himself.  He helped but he did not take from her the joy of knowing she was helping herself and Naomi.

How does this story resonate with you?

What do you think you would have done in Boaz’s place?

Have you ever found yourself helping someone in ways that make you feel good but maybe not in the best interest of the person you are helping?

It can be easy to do, and if we are honest most of us have probably been guilty of this ourselves, but this reminder from Boaz can help us make the best choice.

Help is not help if it cost the person their self worth.

Help is not help if it is more about meeting the helper’s need than the recipient’s need.

Let us help because Christ’s love within us compels us to love in deed  (1 John 3:18) and do so in a way that reflects His great love for each of us.

Howdy Friends!

Traveling provides a great opportunity for learning experiences.  Just back from Europe this week visiting two countries has given me a fresh appreciation. Traveling with our middle daughter who is a medical student gave me lots of eureka moments. Up to date; Layo has been to 25 countries in her lifetime, with plans for many more in the future. She has become masterful in packing, aviation logistics and weaving her way through airports and various cities of the world. Her keen eye for details and her extreme patience mesmerized me amidst my myriad of questions. Questions such as why can’t we ride another bus instead of staying on a bus for 45 minutes to go around town to get to our destination? She believes it's a great way for sight seeing :). Overall, it was a God-breathe trip filled with rich memories we all will cherish.

Here are some standouts of the Europe trip:

1. Choice is a powerful gift no matter the situation. The ability to choose is one of the distinct gifts bestowed upon humans by the Creator.  As adventurous as our trip already was, add to that delayed luggages and you have a recipe for hyper- adventure! We had a choice to either allow the delayed luggage situation disorganize the entire trip or find ways to adapt and dive into the fun around us. By the time luggages arrived on day 6, we were so used to our newfound adaptations that on my end I did not open my suitcase until the next day. Imagine that for a second!

2. Technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The use of scientific knowledge for the improvement of life in major industries and practical life scenarios has grown explosively in the past twenty years. These growths are evident in communications, manufacturing, engineering, education and medical fields. However, technology is widely used in everyday lives in the area of communication. Few communication service providers have an international plan as part of their normal packages. That leaves travelers sometimes with few options in staying connected outside of hotels. We had at least three miraculous experiences in finding Wi-Fi for necessary functions such as ordering an uber pick-up. And in extreme measures for Wi-Fi, we visited McDonald’s for dinner :).

3. People are our greatest treasures. During our parenting years, my husband had a slogan we taught our girls. The slogan was "people matter the most and not things". We saw this in full demonstration on the trip. Though the delay of luggage meant delay of supplies to some precious families on the visit, yet the hearts of the families shined brightly with love. One family made sure we had food and change of clothes. Another family made sure they were present to savor cherished moments. Then there were the many new people we met who lived out love in tangible ways. The language barrier was not a deterrent to sharing and experiencing the love of God. We spoke the universal language of the heart- one that is clearly understood by every human being.

We are seeing this same universal language displayed right here in Texas with the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. We are seeing people from every walk of life join hearts together to help all those that have been affected by this hurricane.  The human spirits of Texans are triumphing against all odds. Let’s pray, give and help in every way possible for people are our greatest treasures! Love & Blessings!

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased”
                                                                    (Hebrews 13:16, NIV).
