You Make A Difference!

It’s that time of year- back-to-school is upon us.  Today, Texas administrators and teachers welcome their students to another year of growth and exploration; which is what learning is all about.  Before I begin my post, I want to specially thank all our summer guest bloggers!  Each reflection was as unique as each guest.  From the importance of having intrinsic motivation, to God’s lesson plans, road to success, God’s faithfulness and the Holy Spirit’s Empowerment to be you, there were nuggets of truth to glean and chew on from each guest.  My husband and I and our prayer team have prayed and continue to pray that every educator will be empowered for the task ahead this school year.

This summer, I have had the opportunity to visit with a wide variety of educators on many topics as I complete a community project.  One thing seems to be a common thread in our discussions- teacher salary. While advocating for teacher salary a few years ago by hosting the screening of the American Teacher film in the DFW area, many educators expressed their concern in our educational system.  Many felt that anytime our society does not like something in our educational system, we blame teachers. If we don’t like how a school is doing or how students are faring, we blame teachers.  Teachers have become the punching bag for all our society ills.  However, this is far from the truth.  Teachers are extraordinary human beings. They are hope givers. They give more than they receive. In fact teachers work an average of ten hours a day and fifty-two hours a week.

So as a new school year begins, here are 5 encouraging and prayer thoughts that I pray each educator experience this school year:

1. Balance:  Attaining and maintaining balance is a delicate art that contributes to living life well and productively. Balance is essential to living life to the fullest and being at our best. An educator’s life is one of the busiest lives. Yet, the busyness should not deter making time for you, your spouse, children, family and friends.  Take up a new hobby or read for pleasure and not school related. May you find your sweet spot of balance this year and never let go of it.

2. Fulfillment: This is what happens when purpose and passion connects. May each day bring a light bulb moment for you so that you experience the satisfaction that comes from why you do what you do and not what you do. This is the reason you chose to teach.

3. Health: A good health is a gift that you give and receive from yourself. Sometimes, it might require you make some lifestyle changes in eating, staying emotionally fit and physical exercising. It’s a gift that will keep giving.  Your students will be better because of this rare gift of good health.

4. Joy: May each day open up new levels of joy that you had never experienced before. Joy is like oil or lubrication system. With lots of it, you reduce unwanted friction; reduce wear on moving parts, help cool an engine, absorb shock loads and act as a cleaning agent. These are all what joy will do in your life.

5. Growth: May you experience the thrill of growth. Only living things have the capacity to grow. May each day in your classroom bring you opportunities to grow to be the best version of yourself.  As you grow, your students will too.

The Lord bless and establish you and your students this school year. Teachers never forget that you make a difference! This school year, you will be the only hope for a student. This is to a wonderful year of learning. I leave you with these closing words from fellow educator and poet Taylor Mali.
Love & Blessings!!
