Living The Mission

It seems like February was just here when I wrote my last post. Unbelievable it’s May and almost the end of another school year.  Much has passed in the last two months. April came with the opportunity of sowing into the lives of the precious educators in Latvia at their annual Public School Teachers Conference organized by a church in Latvia. Being a part of this conference was eye-opening on many levels. It was a combination of spiritual meal and academic professional development. The hunger and thirst of the educators for the word of God blessed me beyond words. A spiritual transaction took place deep down in their hearts.  I came back with a deeper pant for the release of the glorious power of God in our world.  The wonderful ministers of God I met in Latvia on the fore front of shining the light of the gospel in a nation that was once under communist regime was an added joy to the Latvia trip.

April closed out with a bang with the publication of the Texas Student Refugee Framework a premier manual for Texas educators in meeting the needs of their refugee students and families.  The publication co-authored with my colleague a leading expert in English Language Learners education was intended as a resource for educators attending the conference.  The manual and conference represented one big mountain that had to be climbed. This takes me back to a word of knowledge a friend shared with me two years ago.  Unknown to her when she shared the word of knowledge with me, I had embarked on the journey to find ways of support for educators with refugee students. God had used her to give me another layer of confirmation to stay focused, climb and conquer the mountain of Refugee research.  The success of both conferences in Houston and San Antonio with classroom, school, district and education center personnel is totally a demonstration of the power of God. This was the first conference of its kind in Texas. I know beyond a shadow of doubt it was the Lord’s doing. I am amazed by His unfailing faithfulness, which draws me to awe and adoration of my Amazing God. It is my desire to never cease been amazed by my God. To Him be all the glory now and forever!

The month of May opened with me joining the wonderful family at Lincoln Christian University (LCU) in Illinois as Adjunct Professor of Curriculum Development in the Online Masters of Arts TESOL program.  This is another demonstration of the power of God joining this excellent Christian higher education community whose mission is to nurture and equip believers with a Biblical worldview to serve and lead in the church and the world. The mission of LCU resonates with the passion God has stamped in me. The mission enables servant leaders to be more effective in their chosen professions through programs delivered via non-traditional means taught from a Christian worldview. Knowing firsthand the benefits of non-traditional education, I am elated and looking forward to all God has in store at LCU.

I am deeply grateful to God who saw fit to use the avenue of education to do His work in and through me. With the completion of my doctoral program just a step away at TAMU, my heart is overflowing.  As my awesome husband eloquently says, there is a special blessing in finishing well.  Last week, I had the opportunity to defend my proposal for dissertation/record of study (exploring the Texas Code on Character Education 29.906.) Next, data collection/analysis, final report and final defense. Living the mission to the glory of my Lord and King!
