My hope and desire is that something shared here will encourage you, guide you or challenge you as a parent, teacher, friend or even a student. Enjoy!!
It has been a long break from writing for me. Amidst my long season of hibernation from writing many things have taken place. Johnson and I graduated our oldest daughter from college and our youngest from high school. It was definitely a whirlwind of celebrations. Reflecting on the past seven months, its unbelievable how we all made it through. I rest firmly on the loving embrace of my Savior who lavishes me with His grace and strength.
Right somewhere in all the graduation highs, I was awarded the Barbara Bush Fellowship by TCALL ( Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and Learning) funded by the Barbara Bush Foundation to conduct research in the area of family literacy. I am honored and humbled to be selected and to be a voice for justice in the area of literacy. Prior to this, I had the opportunity to serve as a local educational writer for Examiner for Tarrant County. As time permits, I will share my various experiences with you.
All research documents for the research have been submitted to the IRB awaiting the final process. In the time been I am making preparations for my study leave in Spring from my school district. I am blessed to work in one of the finest school districts in the nation with dedicated educators who believe in the mission of educating all students.
My study leave will give me the opportunity to conduct research, travel and speak nationally and internationally as a literacy advocate bringing awareness to the issue of immigrants and literacy. This is one area in literacy circles that is underrepresented in research. One major part of my preparation is ensuring that in my absence teachers of Limited English Language students will continue to receive adequate support.
I am excited and grateful about this journey. Still in the mix of things is my doctoral program that continues to provide me with ample opportunities of professional growth.
As my time permits, I will be sharing my exciting journey.
With great Joy,
Feyi
