My hope and desire is that something shared here will encourage you, guide you or challenge you as a parent, teacher, friend or even a student. Enjoy!!
One thing I love about my American birth heritage is Thanksgiving holiday. I love the fact that everyone takes a special interest in been grateful and thankful to all those relationships in their lives this time of year.
Many teachers this time of year are very tired and tried on all levels. They have braved twelve weeks of school (teaching and learning), graded countless papers, written myriads of lesson plans, attended meetings, conducted parent conferences and most times stayed late at school to tutor students or modify lessons for the next day. Ninety-five percent of these educators have families; husbands, wives, children, parents and relatives that all need their time, love and attention. It would seem that such profession would command more support but the reality in our American culture is that it doesn’t. Our American educational system has been the most attacked compared to other countries due to many factors- high stakes testing been one of those.
This Thanksgiving, I want to encourage all educators (private and public) to focus on the most important things in your life this week. Enjoy your time with your families, forget about those papers, lessons and tests. Put all your being into enjoying your “gifts” of family and friends this Thanksgiving. You -each educator out there make our world a better place. I am thankful for each of you. No matter the weather forecast, you are there in your classrooms; teaching and guiding your students in the path of discovery. People don’t know that many of you don’t get to eat lunch; not just one day; sometimes it becomes your norm. Some students appreciate you and what you do while some don’t; but that does not stop you from doing what you’re called to do. Sometimes, you might feel no one notices all you do; you do a whole lot than what people see. I want to say-thank you! You are visible to the invisible God who is an accurate record-keeper. He does not miss a thing.
I am thankful for so many, many, many things. At the top of my list; I am deeply thankful for my wonderful husband; I cannot imagine doing life without him. He infuses my life with grand love, strength and wisdom that enables me to walk life with absolute joy, peace and confidence. I am thankful for our three daughters- they bless us beyond words. They are all-embracing their lives with elegance and poise and we are very thankful for who they are and what they stand for. This Thanksgiving we are making a new tradition we are missing one member of our family, our middle daughter who is studying abroad in France. Instead of our typical extended relatives thanksgiving bash, we are heading to the lake to relax and have fun courtesy of dear friends. Christmas will usher us into another new tradition as we combine all extended relatives for a combined Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration. Finally, I am thankful for friendships both long and short term. Friends from every walk of life in various seasons of my life have been God sent- truly blessed and grateful.
For the next couple of days; its okay to skip the calorie counting and enjoy :)
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Best,
Feyi
