Lent Lessons

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."- Matthew 6:21

It has been a while since we updated posts here. We appreciate all your feedback, especially about Oasis Connection broadcasts, Saturday weekly prayer and Oasis of Hope podcasts. We love serving you in every capacity we have. All hands are on deck with different areas here amidst Covid19 and all. Lent began this year right in the middle of the Texas snow storm. We have never seen anything like it. Extreme cold weather like what we had are typical for the northern parts of the nation. With power outages, limited water supply to many cities across the state, it was an experience that we all hope and pray will never happen again in Texas. Many families are still recovering from the aftermath of the snow storm. So, it is understandable that lent came and was not the focus as it usually is this time of year. Yet the significance of the lent season is crucial amidst all that has happened and happening in our world today. As we began the lent season, three lessons stand out that can help us as Christians more than ever in these times.

1. Time of fasting and prayer: Lent gives us the opportunity of living out a prayer lifestyle. Our LORD and example Jesus Christ spent 40 days and nights fasting and praying. Our weekly Saturday prayer time has been a great way to stay connected with many ministry partners and friends globally who pray along. Best of all, are the testimonies we receive on a variety of answered prayers. Finding the time to connect our hearts and spirits with God is vital during these times in prayer. The more time we spend in prayer (not just for ourselves but for others), the more we get to experience the immeasurable blessings of God as stated in Ephesians 2:7, “So that in the coming ages He might display the immeasurable riches of His grace through His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.” Prayer is a privilege with an open invitation from our heavenly Father. We encourage you to take God up on His invitation (Hebrews 4:16).

2. Time of reflection: Lent gives us the opportunity to slow down and reflect upon our relationship with God and others. What does a relationship with God mean in our lives? Taking the time to reflect and answer this question opens up our hearts to a deeper level of intimacy with God. Our reflection points us to acknowledging the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made on the cross for anyone that would believe (Romans 10:9). A time of reflection during this lent season also rejuvenates our hope and assurance of His second coming. A time of reflection opens us up to unflinching obedience to God as we listen to His voice, His instructions and His equipping.

3. Time of consecration: Lent gives us the opportunity to give ourselves to God at a higher dimension for His purposes (Romans 12:1). A time of consecration opens up the well of personal revival in our lives for the benefit of others. The time of consecration allows the Holy Spirit to pour into our lives so we can in turn pour into others. It is more of a “Nemo dat quod non habet” effect (Latin meaning for “you cannot give what you do not have”). Time spent in praise, meditation and worship not only energizes our inner man but also our bodies and souls.

Beloved, let us prioritize taking time to honor God during this lent season amidst all that is happening in the world. It is a great time to experience renewal, restoration and revival. As always, we love hearing from you. Let us know how our team may serve you during this lent season. God bless you!
