Can you believe another school year is underway? 2018 has been a very fast year filled with precious moments. Samuel Butcher was ahead of his time when he coined how to capture those special moments in his trademark, Precious Moments. From high school graduations, college graduations, to first jobs, moving to college and to other states, celebrations, and other changes, many are welcoming new seasons. I’ll share some recent precious moments, including one major tip for helping college students stay connected spiritually.
Thank you to our wonderful volunteer leaders Mrs. Taylor and Mrs. Johnson that gave of themselves at the annual Back to School Fair in Dallas County earlier this month, so that many families could experience precious moments at our booth. Thank you to the Dallas County District Attorney, the Honorable Faith Johnson, for stopping by our booth at the fair. We appreciate all the great work she and her team are doing to ensure justice in Dallas County.
Thank you family and friends for a fabulous 50th jubilee birthday celebration! I’m blessed by each of you! Such precious moments together! I am still reading and digesting each birthday card and the hand-written notes on the huge greeting cards. Grateful for each of you! As I mentioned at the party: my incredible husband has won the award of the family for best party planner (I had that award up until the celebration earlier this month : – ) ). Thank you Honey! You are the BEST!
It was a precious moment for me when I received the call from the Governor’s Office on my appointment to the Texas Diabetes Council to serve Texans. I am honored at the Governor’s confidence to serve the people of Texas on the council along with fellow members to address issues affecting people with diabetes in Texas. I am grateful!
After a break from Community Bible Study, we are back! It was a precious moment as our fall semester kicked off last week with some of God’s passionate daughters hungry to know Him in a new way through His word. Thrilled to journey with these amazing women as we study and grow together; we are already seeing God at work. Grateful to serve His daughters.
Recently, a dear sister had shared about their daughter’s move to college. I encouraged her with some ways our family navigated that season. That evening, I knew that same encouragement would be helpful for other families with children attending college for the first time. When each of our daughters were in college, my husband and I stayed actively engaged with them the same way we were during their high school years. However, this time, our engagement was spiritual. We knew if they were connected spiritually, other areas would take care of themselves. It was more of a Matthew 6:33 principle – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Through each year of their college life, my husband and I worshipped with each daughter as much as possible at their college church. Our oldest and youngest daughters went to college right here in the area (SMU). Our middle daughter went to college in Houston (Rice). Their first year, we all decided on a church and attended together (my husband believed that if our daughters had a say in their college church selection, they would be committed after we were gone back home). After attending church with each of them at the first service, we went and introduced each of them to their pastors. This gave a face to their names. With all three daughters out of college and now thriving professionals, they are all plugged in and active in their churches. Each one of them have had their faith in Jesus Christ tested as their own, and not that of their parents. This is crucial for a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ.
The 2018-2019 school year will bring many precious moments. We just have to be ready to experience those moments, cherish those moments, be grateful for those moments and be cheerleaders of those moments. So, to all parents, students, teachers, administrators and community leaders, know that we are praying for your good success this school year. Love & Blessings!!
"In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success." Proverbs 3:6 TLB
