Kingdom Prayer

3/23/2015

Beloved brothers and sisters, we are getting to the end of Lent season. It has been an exciting time for my wife and I, experiencing the anointing of the scriptures on the Lord’s prayer.  Continuing from where I left off in my last post two weeks ago, here are the remaining gems of truth on the Lord’s Prayer:

Matthew 6: 9-13

Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done:
God’s will is already established but yet to be transferred to His children. This is why it is important to pray and don’t believe the lie of the enemy that says; there is no need to pray because whatever will be, will be.  As God’s ambassadors, we live by divine purpose and not by chance.  Pray specifically that God’s will be done in your life, your family, other families, your church, your city, state, nation and world.

Give us this day our daily bread: Be specific in your request to God for your daily life. Ask more for intangible resources (such as wisdom, understanding, etc.)  that will enable you to fulfill all God has established for you. Asking God to provide for you; exemplifies your dependence on His provision and your conviction that He alone is your source.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors: This is a time for you to allow the Holy Spirit to search your heart and life. As God reveals or shows you anything in your life that needs His forgiveness, be quick to ask Him to forgive you. In the same manner, be quick to forgive others.  Just like a thermostat, determine to set your will to forgive anyone that wrongs you.  If you set your will to always forgive, you will find Psalm 119: 165 to be true and powerful in your life. “Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble” NLT.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: In other to experience the truth of this verse imagine you are going to battle, which you are as a follower of Jesus.  You need special gear and clothing for the battle, any clothing will not suffice. God has already made the provision for your special gear and clothing. It is found in Ephesians 6: 10-18. Put on the whole armor of God: gird your loins with truth, put on the breastplate of righteousness, shod your feet with the readiness of the gospel of peace, put on the shield of faith, put on your helmet of salvation and then grab your sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Ask God to protect not just your physical well being, but to protect your mind, soul, heart and spirit from any assault of evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever: This is a time to make your faith declarations over your life and ascribe the greatness, honor and adoration that belong to God to Him.

The Lord’s Prayer is our model kingdom prayer. That means you don’t need to have a long list of prayer points to have fellowship with God.  The model combines what a relationship is all about- a dialogue- and not a monologue.  I pray you will be encouraged to continue digging deeper in the things of God, even after Lent season is over.  It is God’s desire that we increase in measure so that fruitfulness  will be the mark in our walk with our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:8).

Lent Season

3/9/2015

Beloved brothers and sisters, how is your Lent season going? I pray you’re experiencing a deeper walk with God, deeper revelation of Jesus Christ and deeper intimacy with the Holy Spirit. This is God’s desire for you.

One thing my beautiful wife and I are experiencing in our walk with God during this lent, is unpacking the deeper truths of Our Lord’s Prayer.  I compared my notes from thirteen years ago when I taught on the Lord’s Prayer to the revelation during this lent period. The depth this year is fuller and richer. It is definitely not a coincidence as we expand the mission God has called us to for His glory.  This is the degree of glory 2 Corinthians 3:18 talks about.

Younger co-ministers, growing in Christ takes time and is an unceasing pursuit till we behold our Lord face-to-face. Don’t be in a rush growing. Take time to grow in Christ; and let your roots grow deep that you are unmovable and unshakeable to any forces or darts of the enemy (I Corinthians 15:58).  When my daughters were younger; I would remind them often to enjoy being children. They were listening then more than I thought.  Now as adults, they remind me of those days and the impact that encouragement had on them.

The Lord’s Prayer is filled with many gems of truth. The first few verses I have digested have been awesome.  The Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6:9-13.

Our Father which art in heaven:
   - Picture Calvary in your mind and thank God for the privilege to call Him “Father”
by virtue of the blood of Jesus. This awareness opens your heart to a deeper  appreciation of
the price Jesus paid to redeem you.

 Hallowed be thy name:
    - Hallow the names of God corresponding with the five benefits in the new
covenant we have in Christ and make your declarations.  As you pray begin to
picture each of the names of God and how it applies to you.

       1. Spirit: God is our Jehovah Shalom (The Lord our Peace)
God is our Jehovah Shammah (The Lord is Always present)

        2. Soundness: God is our Jehovah Rophe (The Lord our Healer)

        3.  Sin : God is our Jehovah Tsidkenu (The Lord our Righteousness)
God is our Jehovah M’Kaddesh (The Lord our Sanctifier)

         4. Security: God is our Jehovah Nissi (The Lord our Banner)
God is our Jehovah Rohi (The Lord our Shepherd)

          5. Success: God is our Jehovah Jireh (The Lord our Provider)

With twenty more days left in this Lenten season, I encourage you to press in and discover all God has for you.  Praying with you as you journey through this lent.
