Repost: Mountain Climax

3/31/2017

Thank you brothers and sisters for all the well wishes for my birthday. I am still catching up on all the email messages and cards many of you have sent. This week more cards came from church family and friends. Thank you everyone. God bless you and your families abundantly. It is my honor to serve you in every capacity God has called me to. Thank you to my beautiful Queen and daughters for making the onset of a new birth year a memorable one that is dear to my heart.

This week my wife and I attended a community summit featuring our State Governor Abbott, Fort Worth Mayor Price, State Comptroller Hegar and many state and community leaders learning and collaborating on how we may better serve our communities. The more we know, the better we can serve people in our communities. Let us continue to pray for all our elected leaders and their families. They have a big responsibility towards God and His people.

On a
side note, the 2017 Excellence in Character Scholarship program is now open. More information on this and other major missions of Take Back Ministries will be forth coming. In the meantime help us tell your family and friends about the 2017 Excellence in Character Scholarship program. Application is available by clicking on the Scholarship tab of this website. This year, we are looking for two well deserving graduating seniors from North Texas- one from Dallas County and one from Tarrant County. Thank you in advance for your help and support. Together we can make a difference in the lives of our young people. It is my prayer that the post below from my wife will encourage you. God Bless you!

Hello dear educators! Texas is home to great cities and people. I just returned from Amarillo working with some passionate educators. And spring is in the air! Can you believe the month of March is over? It came like a blink. Here on our end, the month of March has been a special one for our family celebrating my incredible husband. Knowing that he had some items on his to-do list, we opted to have a month long celebration for him to have the opportunity to enjoy as many of them as possible. For someone like him who is always thinking and doing for others, this approach was the best way for him to slow down and enjoy himself. We are so thankful for the incredible gift you are. We love and appreciate you, Honey.

This last week brought a culmination to his celebrations. The month has been filled with mountain climbing experiences, bowling, travels, movies, archery, community service events, hiking, woodworking and dining. Of particular mention is the dining part. My family loves for me to cook jollof rice for celebrations. For his birthday, my husband asked for something different. He wanted asaro; a meal he used to eat with his father during his years. It’s always the simple things that keep us well grounded.

Of special note was our mountain climbing experiences. As we were ascending uphill, nothing was visible. Not the body of water surrounding where we were or the nearby homes. The scenery was not too welcoming. However, once we reached the climax of the mountain, we saw things differently. We could see the breath taking surrounding landscape and the world around us. What a beauty to behold! Seeing the beauty brought such depth of thankfulness to my soul. These mountain climbing experiences quickly reminded me of life in general. It is in the mundane that we gather strength to appreciate the climax. The destination is important. In fact many would say the destination is the success. However the lessons learned through the process and journey towards the destination are also part of the success. These are the hallmark of character, the building blocks of an unshakeable essence, the dexterity of a fine-tuned focus and the thrill of satisfaction.

So educator friends, as the semester gets hectic with testing and end of year must-dos, determine to find the “gold” in the arduous process. Yes, the destination is ahead. However, what you gather along the way will make the destination much sweeter and fulfilling. Cheering you on to the finish line! Love & Blessings!!

Braces for Lent

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love” (Ephesians 3:17a, NKJV).

We are now thirteen days into the lent season. Lent is a special season in the Christian calendar to prepare our hearts to celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 1:25-30). It is known as a solemn time of reflection, meditation, prayer and repentance. Though the season is marked with an earnest pursuit of our relationship with God, it is a time to harness us firmly in our faith in God.

For anyone that has ever worn braces; you understand very well the discomfort that comes with wearing those wires in your teeth for a season to re-align any crooked dentition or correct mis-aligned jaw joints. Each of our daughters wore braces during their teenage years. I remember the discomfort they each felt; from frequent flossing and brushing. Wearing one now at my age, I can relate to the discomfort that comes with it and the restrictions of food- such as no sticky or crunchy foods.

However, with the discomfort and food restrictions is the anticipation for steadfast hope of well-aligned dentition and jaw joints. This makes the food restrictions and the temporary discomfort of wearing the braces bearable. Such is our participation in this solemn season of lent to prepare our hearts to experience deep renewal and fresh outflow of resurrection power or anointing.

Jeremiah 17:9-10 is a good scripture on our need as followers of Christ to participate in a time to re-align our hearts to God’s heart, word, will and purpose for mankind. God does not need re-alignment- He is unchanging in His character (Hebrew 13:8). We humans on the other hand are a different story. Our hearts need constant recalibration and re-alignment, which many times are uncomfortable.

Beloved brothers and sisters, not just at lent which is a deliberate time of seeking but our hearts need   re-alignment frequently. This constant check-up keep our hearts pure and a befitting habitation for the Holy Spirit. Our hearts need cleansing from impediments, self-centeredness, unforgiveness, judgment of others, clutter of spite, resentment and bitterness towards God and others. In place of these, our hearts need to be enlarged with a fruitful holiness that contain compassion, generosity, gratitude, and most of all the God kind of love (1 Corinthians 13:8).

Lent is God’s invitation to experience Him at a deeper and higher level. Lent can be said to be a time to wear some braces, which can be uncomfortable. Brothers and sisters, let’s accept the invitation that will allow Christ to dwell in our hearts more fully; being rooted and grounded in His love. God Bless you!
