The Fire of The Holy Spirit

Acts 2:3 “They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.”

This past Sunday, believers all over the world celebrated Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost denotes the 50th day after the resurrection. It marks the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles and disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Pentecost is alive and well today in the lives of all believers that have been baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. The empowerment of the Holy Spirit makes John 14:12 a living testament for all believers. The history of the church gives us significant insight into the manifestation of the Holy Spirit as evidenced by the demonstrations of God’s power. Jesus our ultimate example assures us that because He goes to the Father, believers in Him will do greater works than what He has done. This is an incredible assurance Jesus left for us in our dispensation.

The book of Acts is one of the most impactful books of the Bible. It chronicles the demonstrations of the power of God in the lives of the apostles and gives us a reference point in flowing in the supernatural even today. Many would like to say, those days chronicled in the book of Acts were gone. While others, would like to say, the acts described are not for everyone. Our dispensation is made for those greater works Jesus spoke of in John 14:12. The fire of the Holy Spirit is what makes this possible for every effective follower of Christ to flow in demonstration power. Our prayers are effective because of the fire of the Holy Spirit. James 5:16b talks about this fire of the Holy Spirit in the words, “effectual fervent prayer” of a righteous man avails much. The Holy Spirit teaches us the will of the Father and then prays through us to bring His will to pass, hence manifesting His glory among us.

The Old and New Testament describe this fire of the Holy Spirit. In the Old testament, we see fire often used symbolically for God’s presence as in the burning bush Exodus 3:2 and the Skekinah glory Exodus 14:19, Numbers 9:14-15. In the New Testament John the Baptist proclaims that Jesus will be the One with the authority to baptize with the Holy Spirit and with fire (Matthew 3:11). In Hebrews 12:29, God is known as the consuming fire. Fire is a strong visual of the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. This fire serenades us with God’s presence, consumes us with God’s passion and brands us with God’s purity. The fire of the Holy Spirit gives us an unquenchable thirst for the things of God.

Think about going to the movies or store and the Holy Spirit leads you to pray for someone right there. Before the Holy Spirit leads, He already knows the outcome. As you obey the Holy Spirit’s leading, you are engaged in that greater work Jesus talked about because He is with the Father. Let's imagine and begin to see our world with a full demonstration of the power of God, right where we are. There is an outpouring to fill thirsty believers all over the world. The overflowing presence of the Holy Spirit is available to whosoever believes and willing to be filled and refilled as many times as needed. When the apostles were all gathered together in that upper room in Acts chapter 2, they were all united in one accord. They were hungry for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Are you hungry for a fresh fire of the Holy Spirit? How hungry are you to be a conduit of the demonstration of God’s power and Spirit in the world?  Our world waits patiently for the manifestation of the sons and daughters of God (Romans 8:19) bathed in the love and power of God. It is the fire of the Holy Spirit that will bring about massive salvation of souls, restoration, deliverance, and an unshakeable Bride of Christ in this world. Would you let the fire of the Holy Spirit fall afresh on you today? Ask, so that you will receive, seek, so that you will find, knock and the door will be open unto you. Receive the fire!
