Good Friday

3/30/2018

“The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise" (Mark 9:31).

Good Friday as it is affectionately known is one of the highlights of Holy week. It's a sober day as we remember the betrayal, suffering and crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As followers of Christ, we know the importance of Christ's resurrection. Without the empty tomb our faith and hope is baseless. Romans 10: 9-10 is the bedrock of our faith in Christ Jesus, "That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

My focus is on today-Good Friday- a day that is equally as important as the resurrection. Without Good Friday, there would not be Resurrection. Without the betrayal, suffering and crucifixion and burial of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, there would not be the exhilarating victory of Resurrection. Good Friday is not a time filler in the Resurrection story and experience. Good Friday is a necessary experience. Good Friday is a must for victorious living. Our Lord exemplified this truth. As His followers, we cannot skip Good Friday to get to Resurrection.

Beloved brothers and sisters, as we look forward to the celebration of our Lord's Resurrection this Sunday, let's marinate in the importance of Good Friday. This may be a Good Friday kind of season in your life. My encouragement to you is to embrace it with the knowledge that it is a season full of purpose. As inconvenienced as the experience may be right now, there is hope in it's outcome. Our Lord Jesus had this very hope in Him, when He boldly told His disciples,"The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise" (Mark 9:31). Jesus knew His Good Friday experience was not the end of the redemption story. Resurrection was coming that will establish the Father's plan for mankind; which is God's ultimate love to restore mankind to Himself through Jesus sacrifice on the cross. His sacrifice was the ultimate price for our restoration and was paid in full (John 3:16).

This is exactly the same plan God has for you His beloved son and daughter. It is a plan to give you a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). As always, it will be our honor to serve you through prayer. We will be honored to lend you faith and infuse supernatural strength to you, as God has greatly bestowed for His glory.  Send your prayer requests to info@oasisfocus.org.  Look up! Sunday is around the corner! Your redemption is near! Victory is assured! You are loved! God Bless you!

How Attending Church Can Benefit the Health of Seniors

As people grow older in age, life slows down drastically. Many seniors feel isolated and depressed because they are no longer working, their children are leading their own lives, and their friends or even spouses often lose battles with their health. The best way to get a senior out of this state is to encourage them to attend church regularly. It has been proven in countless studies that going to church has a positive long-term effect on mental health for the elderly. Here are some reasons why going to church will help their health take a turn for the better!

A chance to socialize

Many seniors spend their days cooped up in assisted living facilities or in their house, away from the company of others. Being isolated can result in depression, substance abuse, cognitive decline and an increased risk of mortality. Attending church will give seniors the opportunity for fellowship with like minded people regularly. Also, many churches offer organization meetings and group outings outside of weekend service, which gives seniors even more of a chance to get out and mingle! It is extremely difficult for older adults to make new friends so participating in church-related functions will give them the opportunity to do just that. These friendships built with congregation members will make a senior feel as though they have a sense of belonging, which is a feeling many seniors miss.

Church members also offer social support that is unmatched. They tend to look out for one another, like an extended family. Each member is treated with importance, regardless of age and if a senior falls ill or needs a helping hand, a church member will be there for them. Good social support reduces stress, anxiety and depression and also provides a sense of purpose and belonging. Socially isolated seniors tend to have a pessimistic outlook about the future, and openly predict that their health will get worse over the next few years. People that are supported by a group of friends are less vulnerable to health issues and premature death and they also have a generally positive outlook on life.

A routine

Seniors with declining health issues such as dementia, need a calculated schedule to help make them feel secure. As these adults grow older, they feel out of control as their body “surprises” them with new ailments and diseases. Creating a routine where they go to church every weekend will not only give them something to look forward to and be a part of, it will also give them a sense of control and independence. This routine will keep them from slipping into depression and other negative behavior patterns.

A spiritual practice

It has been said that those who practice spirituality or religion, lead longer and healthier lives. Church teaches the practice of “faith” which means to have complete confidence in God. By attending church on a regular basis and practicing faith, seniors will feel as though they are a part of something bigger than themselves, which is extremely comforting. This comfort is needed the most when facing diseases and other health issues that comes with growing older. A strong spiritual practice will give a senior the strength they need to keep living and enjoying life.

Seniors need to know that the later stages of life do not mean that life is over. Attending church regularly will help restore their quality of life by providing strong friendships, routine and spirituality. Perhaps life is not ending, and this is just a new beginning!

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you  not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and  streams in the wasteland."  Isaiah 43:19

Time is a gift that defines our priorities. It takes the wisdom of God to steward the gift in ways that bring honor and glory to His name. So far, 2018 has brought many opportunities that required great stewardship to the glory of God! As you may remember, we began Oasis Connection – the TV ministry of Oasis Focus Inc in January. God used our initial broadcast with the NOW TV Network as a launching ground for advancing His kingdom. Thank you for watching and giving us your feedback.

Back in January, my beautiful wife and I had the privilege of meeting one of the Generals in the Faith. We were scheduled for a brief meeting that turned into two hours of impartation and mentoring. It was two hours of digging deep into the heart of God, His kingdom, His word and His people with Pastor Lee Sherrell. We left the meeting full of deep revelations from the heartbeat of God. Pastor Sherrell is the founder and president of UANetwork TV-a family oriented station with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. Pastor Sherrell has been preaching and teaching the Word of God for over 55 years. We are thrilled and honored to partner with Pastor Sherrell and his beautiful wife Pam in reaching souls for the kingdom of God.

The new home for Oasis Connection TV program began last month on UANetwork TV as a Saturday bi-weekly program featuring practical hope for victorious living from God’s word and the many transformed lives of ordinary people who dwell in the Lordship of Jesus Christ as the way, truth and life. The UANetwork has an estimated reach of 80 million worldwide through the various inspirational outlets the TV station current has. In the Dallas Fort Worth area, UANetwork TV typically can be found on Channel 27 via Verizon. Visit the broadcast tab of this site to see where UANetwork is carried in your area. There is also daily 24 hours online streaming available on the network. We also have the Oasis Focus Youtube Channel that will be a follow up outlet for some of the inspirational messages from Oasis Connection. Be sure to stay connected on our social media outlets to stay updated. Beginning from tomorrow, March 3 you can start watching Oasis Connection at 9:30AM CST on the UANetwork TV. Then on Saturday, March 10, you can visit Oasis Focus Youtube Channel to watch past broadcasts. We believe this bi-weekly schedule will benefit our ministry friends to dig deeper in walking with God through reflections and prayer. Thank you for standing with us in prayer and financial support. We can continue to advance God’s kingdom with your partnership. Also, do not forget that our Prayer Forum is also open for you. It will be our honor to pray with you. Visit the forum on the TV Broadcast page and let us know how we can serve you in prayer.

On another vital note- next week Tuesday, March 6th is Primary Election Day here in Texas. I am sure you are aware of our continuous prayer for our nation, local, state and national leaders. As believers it is our responsibility to keep them covered in prayer (1 Timothy 2: 1-2). As you also know, my beautiful Queen is running for office. I am Godly proud of her care for students, educators and parents. For the past four months she and her campaign team have worked tirelessly meeting voters across three counties. I salute her strength, grace and passion to bring glory to God. If you did not vote early, please go and vote next Tuesday. And vote for my amazing, beautiful, passionate wife as our next State Board of Education member for district 11. God bless you!
