I recently watched an African movie with my wife. Afterwards, we discussed some of its memorable moments. A poignant scene was when a child was able to touch an adult’s life who was seeking godly direction regarding a building project. The plot of the movie centered on how this little boy was used by God to guide this adult to knowledge of Jesus Christ. It was then that the Holy Spirit quickened me about equipping believers concerning this area for the next blog entry.
Every believer is alive today because God has destined them to promote Him and His Kingdom within their given sphere of influence. Look at the Word of God in Matthew 5:14-16. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
This scripture makes it clear that we, as believers, are carriers of God’s light and our purpose is to make Jesus known to not only unbelievers, but the rest of the world.
God is all powerful so he is capable of sending all believers straight to heaven after we have been saved. However, He has not done so, and instead, has left us here on earth in order to make a difference for Him. Believers can fulfill this godly assignment by shining the light of Jesus in every circumstance they find ourselves. Additionally, it can only be accomplished through possessing the correct attitude. It involves looking beyond one’s abilities and stepping into the unknown by contributing, helping, supporting, changing, advocating, and standing in the gap on behalf of one another. Any believer, young or older, can produce an impact on the life of others.
There is a famous African proverb which resonates with this topic: If you think you’re too small to make a difference; try sleeping with a mosquito.” Mosquitoes are tiny creatures but can make a significant negative impact on one’s health. It goes to show that no one or no group is too small to make a difference. Only a little spark is needed to ignite a revolution.
Believers already have what it takes to create change. Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, bathed in compassion, you are fully equipped to shine the light of God. This is the time and hour to be the “mosquitoes” of the world that are determined to make a positive impact for the Kingdom of God. It is time to galvanize the body of Christ to generate the mosquito effect in our world for the glory of God.
