One of the misconceptions about this midterm election is the new requirement for photo identification for anyone voting in person. This is a major change from what voters have been accustomed to, especially here in Texas. During my tenure as a county election judge, voters came to their precinct polling station with anything that could establish their residency within that precinct. Photo identification was not required then. This new requirement should not deter anyone especially believers to go to the polls now or on November 4th. Voting is a privilege and responsibility. For us as sons and daughters of God, it is an honor in representing our Lord to be involved in the election process. We have a mandate to take this charge prayerfully and seriously.
May I encourage you to pray passionately for the midterm elections. Pray that God’s will be established. Pray that God’s glory will be revealed during and after this election. Pray that God’s spirit will direct the hearts of everyone as they go to the polls. There is absolutely nothing God cannot do! (Matt 19:26). We have to always remember this truth. With a unified heart of prayer we can expect to see heaven manifested in this midterm elections.
On the action part of putting our faith to work as believers:
- Go the polls either now during early voting until the end of the month or on election day-
November 4th.
- Encourage your neighbors and friends to go to the polls.
- Encourage any young adult in your life to exercise their privilege and responsibility and vote.
- Encourage anyone you know who needs a photo identification to get one as soon as possible
from their local Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office. Anyone without photo
identification can now obtain free election identification certificates from the DPS office. Be
advised that, if you have any of the following you are not eligible for the free election
identification certificates: Texas driver license, Texas ID card, Texas concealed handgun
license, U.S. passport card/book, U.S. Military ID or U.S. Citizenship or Naturalization
certificate.
