Midterm Elections

10/20/2014

Picture
Beloved brothers and sisters, there are fourteen days to the November 4th, 2014 elections and today marks the first day of early voting. Midterm elections in the United States are held two years after the major four-year Presidential elections. There have been some misconceptions about this midterm election for various reasons. Typically, midterm elections are for members of the U.S. Congress both the House of Representatives and the Senate. In addition, many states elect their governors during midterms as well as state and local government. Here in Texas, we are electing our next governor to a four-year term.

One of the misconceptions about this midterm election is the new requirement for photo identification for anyone voting in person.  This is a major change from what voters have been accustomed to, especially here in Texas. During my tenure as a county election judge, voters came to their precinct polling station with anything that could establish their residency within that precinct. Photo identification was not required then. This new requirement should not deter anyone especially believers to go to the polls now or on November 4th.  Voting is a privilege and responsibility. For us as sons and daughters of God, it is an honor in representing our Lord to be involved in the election process. We have a mandate to take this charge prayerfully and seriously.

May I encourage you to pray passionately for the midterm elections. Pray that God’s will be established. Pray that God’s glory will be revealed during and after this election. Pray that God’s spirit will direct the hearts of everyone as they go to the polls. There is absolutely nothing God cannot do! (Matt 19:26). We have to always remember this truth. With a unified heart of prayer we can expect to see heaven manifested in this midterm elections.

On the action part of putting our faith to work as believers:
-   Go the polls either now during early voting until the end of the month or on election day-

    November 4th.
-   Encourage your neighbors and friends to go to the polls.
-   Encourage any young adult in your life to exercise their privilege and responsibility and vote.
-   Encourage anyone you know who needs a photo identification to get one as soon as possible

from their local  Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office. Anyone without photo
identification can now obtain free election identification certificates from the DPS office. Be
advised that, if you have any of the following you are not eligible for the free election
identification certificates: Texas driver license, Texas ID card, Texas concealed handgun
license, U.S. passport card/book, U.S. Military ID or U.S. Citizenship or Naturalization
    certificate.

“Choose wise, understanding, and knowledgeable men from among your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.” –
Deuteronomy 1:13.

In His Presence

10/8/2014

Beloved brothers and sisters, first I want to thank you for your prayers as I completed the last phase of my doctoral program this year.  It was a different challenge that I understood first hand the intense rigor and warfare involved. My sweet wife was completely right on with what it takes to get to the finish line in such a huge undertaking. It takes “camping” in the presence of the Lord for strength, wisdom, encouragement and direction. I am glad to report that I have crossed the finish line gallantly to the glory of God! (2 Timothy 4:7)

The camping experience in God's presence creates:
-       a fresh longing for God
-       a fresh baptism in His love
-       a burning desire for souls
-       a new hunger for His word
-       a deep call for what I call weightiness in the Spirit
-       a clarity in the things of God
-       a succinctness in hearing the voice of God
-       a transparency before God and people
-       a settled assurance of His peace
-       an overflowing gratitude and satisfaction of sonship

Why would God’s presence be a big deal? It would not be a big deal if our culture had a slower pace to its rhythms. It becomes a big deal because of the price anyone has to pay to defy the fast rhythms we are all so accustomed to.  It is impossible to desire God’s presence and still maintain the same pace we are accustomed to. Something has to give, in order to experience the fellowship of His presence. However, it is worth any price to flow in this divine essence that does not offer drive-through or microwave services.

And to think that God Himself, our Majestic Creator, desires to have us in His presence is too much for our frail human understanding. But, He really does. The Bible tells us that the very desire to seek God or want to be in His presence begins with Him (John 6:44). Our human heart does not have that ability to seek God independently. When we find there is desire, there is longing, there is a “want to” in our hearts for a loving God, we are captivated with an awe and excitement to come closer and fellowship in His presence.

Slow down enough to hear Him calling. Calling to a deeper place in Him. Calling to know you. Calling to help you. Calling to change you. Calling to infuse His divine essence in and through you. Calling to transform you. Do you hear Him calling you? The choice to answer or not is yours. I encourage you to answer and see what He does in you!
