It happened that my prepared post for this week was on call to prayer for our hurting world at large. Like many across this country, we came out of Sunday worship services to hear of the horrific mass shootings in Orlando, Florida early yesterday morning. There is a cry for God's mercies with many lives lost and divine comfort for the families grieving today. In a similar manner last week, lives were lost in Israel with the horrific attack on innocent lives. At every turn we see that God’ creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed (Romans 8:19 NIV).
This post is a plea to every follower of Christ- let us commit to prayer for a hurting world, as we have never done before. Let us pray for God’s redemptive love to permeate through every follower of Christ to a hurting world. Let us pray for supernatural manifestations of God’s redemptive power to the souls of men and women in our world. Let us be the ambassadors of love, peace, joy, and blessing to our world. We are called to be Christ’s ambassadors in every sphere of this world. More than anything else, prayer will change us to be Christlike to a world that needs the tangible touch of God's love.
God is more than able to speak, deliver, heal, comfort, provide, restore, redeem and save to the uttermost all that come unto Him because He lives to make intercession for us (Hebrews 7:25 NIV).
As followers of Christ we can see more of God’s redemptive power at work in our world when we are continuously on bended knees. This posture shows our dependence on a God that is unfailingly dependable, reliable and trustworthy. For the past one and half year, my wife, some dear friends and I have been standing in the gap once a month for our nation. Irrespective of our beliefs, we come together in one accord and celebrate our unity in Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. We believe God for His will to be manifested here on earth as it is in heaven. We anchor our hope in the power of irresistible prayer.
As any follower of Christ has discovered, God’s ways are unconventional. The times we live in calls for unconventional approaches revealed in the word of God. Prayer is one of these unconventional ways of victorious living for followers of Christ. Brothers and sisters let us commit to live the unconventional way for the glory of God! It is possible through Him in Whom we live, move and have our being.
For The Cause of Christ,
Dr. Johnson Obamehinti
