Repost: Universal Language

9/1/2017

Beloved brothers and sisters, I know your hearts are stirred with the devastation here at home in Texas. Our fellow man needs our help. If you don't yet have somewhere to connect with to help, you may consider our home church. The needs are great.  Also, be aware that many laws goes into effect today-September 1st here in Texas. In fact there are 673 laws going to effect today. The notable mention that you will want to know of quickly is that texting and driving is now prohibited in Texas. You want to make our young adults aware of this because of the fine that comes with the law. Finally, my beautiful Queen will be teaching a Sunday class at our home church this month. If you don't have a church home come visit, we would love to see and have you join us. Below is her repost chronicling recent travel to Europe. As it is our desire to create lasting legacies in our communities, my prayer is that there will be something in her repost that will ignite a thought, idea or action that will bless you and your families. We share our lives to help and encourage anyone to believe God for victorious life that is found only in Christ Jesus. God Bless you!

Howdy Friends!

Traveling provides a great opportunity for learning experiences.  Just back from Europe this week visiting two countries has given me a fresh appreciation. Traveling with our middle daughter who is a medical student gave me lots of eureka moments. Up to date; Layo has been to 25 countries in her lifetime, with plans for many more in the future. She has become masterful in packing, aviation logistics and weaving her way through airports and various cities of the world. Her keen eye for details and her extreme patience mesmerized me amidst my myriad of questions. Questions such as why can’t we ride another bus instead of staying on a bus for 45 minutes to go around town to get to our destination? She believes it's a great way for sight seeing :). Overall, it was a God-breathe trip filled with rich memories we all will cherish.

Here are some standouts of the Europe trip:

1. Choice is a powerful gift no matter the situation. The ability to choose is one of the distinct gifts bestowed upon humans by the Creator.  As adventurous as our trip already was, add to that delayed luggages and you have a recipe for hyper- adventure! We had a choice to either allow the delayed luggage situation disorganize the entire trip or find ways to adapt and dive into the fun around us. By the time luggages arrived on day 6, we were so used to our newfound adaptations that on my end I did not open my suitcase until the next day. Imagine that for a second!

2. Technology is no longer a luxury but a necessity. The use of scientific knowledge for the improvement of life in major industries and practical life scenarios has grown explosively in the past twenty years. These growths are evident in communications, manufacturing, engineering, education and medical fields. However, technology is widely used in everyday lives in the area of communication. Few communication service providers have an international plan as part of their normal packages. That leaves travelers sometimes with few options in staying connected outside of hotels. We had at least three miraculous experiences in finding Wi-Fi for necessary functions such as ordering an uber pick-up. And in extreme measures for Wi-Fi, we visited McDonald’s for dinner :).

3. People are our greatest treasures. During our parenting years, my husband had a slogan we taught our girls. The slogan was "people matter the most and not things". We saw this in full demonstration on the trip. Though the delay of luggage meant delay of supplies to some precious families on the visit, yet the hearts of the families shined brightly with love. One family made sure we had food and change of clothes. Another family made sure they were present to savor cherished moments. Then there were the many new people we met who lived out love in tangible ways. The language barrier was not a deterrent to sharing and experiencing the love of God. We spoke the universal language of the heart- one that is clearly understood by every human being.

We are seeing this same universal language displayed right here in Texas with the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. We are seeing people from every walk of life join hearts together to help all those that have been affected by this hurricane.  The human spirits of Texans are triumphing against all odds. Let’s pray, give and help in every way possible for people are our greatest treasures! Love & Blessings!

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased”
                                                                    (Hebrews 13:16, NIV).
