The Big Picture

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” Genesis 1:31

Beloved brothers and sisters, God uses everything in and around us to convey His message.  This past weekend, my family celebrated the graduation of my youngest daughter from college.  Sitting in the SMU Moody coliseum listening as former President George W. Bush spoke to the graduates, the Holy Spirit quickened a message on the power of a vision.

The power of a vision is what propels and keeps you grounded from point A to point B.  Vision can be articulated as the ability to see the end. It is the ability to see the completion of something. The word of God tells us that without this type of seeing people perish (Proverbs 29:11).  God gave us a template in the power of a vision. In Genesis 1:31, after God had created everything, He saw the completion of humanity. The Bible records that God saw it was very good.  Despite all that would happen, after  creation in Genesis, God saw the end of the story. God saw the redemption of humanity through His beloved Son-Jesus Christ.

My youngest daughter saw herself as an engineer way before she became one. However, she carried that vision in her and allowed the power of the vision to propel her despite the price of the vision. My wife and I had a vision for our family, way before our daughters came. We had a vision for a faith legacy for our family. We had a vision to train, nurture, equip and pastor our daughters’ hearts to a place where they could know God for themselves and follow Jesus with their own faith in who He is to them. We had a vision that their God given talents will unfold, flourish and be used for God’s glory.  Through years of raising each of them until the fruition of the vision, my wife and I kept that vision alive.

To complete her senior year for graduation, my youngest had to do a one-year team senior capstone design project.  The team was tasked with creating a search and rescue unmanned aerial channel that was capable of Wi-Fi communication, and tracking infrared signals. As one of the mechanical engineers on the team, my daughter’s assignment was to design housing for electrical components that will be inserted into the nose of the glider along with an inertial measurement units data fusing filter for sourcing position data. Despite all what her and her team had to go through, they kept the vision of the completed project alive.

Dear brothers and sisters, how do you keep the vision God has given you alive? Following God’s template in His word, the vision is kept alive by seeing the big picture.  Being able to see the big picture enables us to be unshakeable as we work towards the fruition of the vision. God is always faithful; He will do what only He can do. Now beloved, do what only you can do.  Be encouraged and keep that vision God has given you alive!
