The Heavenly Touch of Prayer and Praise

5/3/2012

Phil 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

One of the key weapons of spiritual warfare, at a believer’s disposal, is prayer. James described it as “powerful and effective.” (James 5:16). It is still startling that the power of prayer is rarely harnessed until we feel we need something that is not within our reach. We must, and should, be dependent on prayer as our first line of communication in every situation. If we do not pray, we will not receive. According to Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Prayer is a joy-filled dialogue between a loving Father and His dependent child. As believers we are charged not to worry, fret, or be anxious about anything but rather to take our requests to God through prayer. An existence of fervent belief in the effectiveness of God’s faithfulness will place believers in a praise mode, thanking the Lord for all He has done, and all He will continue to do for us.

Praise, on the other hand, releases our faith so that it becomes unwavering. Praise says, “God I am thanking you in advance because I know you are faithful.” Prayer and praise together help to bring heaven on earth and adds super to our natural resulting in a supernatural occurrence.

When you pray for any petition, there is a peace which overtakes your understanding of what you have given to God in prayer. This is what the Bible describes as the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Phillipians 4:7, “And then the peace of God, which transcends all our powers of thought, will be a garrison to guard your hearts and minds in union with Christ Jesus.”

God is a faithful, prayer-answering Father who delights in giving His children the desires of their heart. Make your prayers diversified. Pray for all men, pray for the authorities who God has placed over you, pray for your family, pray for your friends, pray for your enemies, pray for your unsaved loved ones, pray for laborers of God’s harvest, pray for reconciliation, pray for the establishment of God’s will here on earth, and finally pray as the Holy Spirit leads you.

Let this year’s National Day of Prayer become the springboard into a vibrant prayer lifestyle coupled with praise. Live it.
