When our daughters were little, my wife and I taught them the essence of giving thanks. My wife would then have follow up sessions with them and have them write down at least one thing they were thankful for in their journals. Now as young women, our daughters not only keep a gratitude journal but also they love to express their gratitude. As a father, it blesses me to hear them express their gratitude to God in prayer, to their mother, each other, family, friends and people they encounter on a daily basis. Such is the heart of our heavenly Father, when we as His sons and daughters express our appreciation for whom He is and all He freely bestows on us.
What brought this insight was what I experienced at our summer board of directors meeting last week. With every board member present sharing their hearts for the kingdom vision, I was overwhelmed with gratitude for the kingdom of God that manifested through each of them and for us as God’s beloved for what we have received from Him. In each child of God, is deposited a treasure of immeasurable wisdom of the Holy Spirit that is activated in fellowship with each other. Matthew 18: 20 (For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them), conveys the truth of what happens when the presence of God is released in our midst. Nothing can shake this truth. No cultural shift can shake this reality. In fact, the word of God tells us that all creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakeable things will remain (Hebrews 12: 27-28 NLT). This is our assurance as we see everything around us shaken; we know that only unshakeable things will remain; which is the kingdom of God. These are eternal things. They cannot be changed or destroyed no matter what happens. The knowledge and experience of this truth is powerful.
Dear brothers and sisters, may I encourage you today with the following ten unshakeable truths about an unshakeable kingdom?
God: “Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD God is the eternal Rock.” Isaiah 26:4
God’s Throne: ”Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.” Psalm 45: 6
Righteousness: “His righteousness endures forever.” Psalm 111:3
Mercy: “His mercy endures forever.” Psalm 107:1
Truth: “The truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!” Psalm 117:2
His Word: “Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.” Psalm 119:89
The Gospel: “Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth; to every nation, tribe, tongue and people.” Revelation 14:6
Covenant: “He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name.” Psalm 111:9
Christ the Lord: “Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!” Revelations 11:15
The Holy Spirit: “But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come on you: and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Beloved, with these anchoring realities that we live in as children of God, let us therefore be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe (Hebrews 12:28).
