What Do You Say?

1/11/2016

"I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I
 [confidently] trust.”
-
Psalm 91:2 AMP

Yesterday, my wife and I ministered at a gathering of believers. After the meeting, a young couple walked up to us for prayer. The husband gave me permission to share his story without their names of course. He wanted us to pray that God would transform his family. He did not like some of the words his two little children were using around their home. The wife added that she had started seeing some of the effects of the bad words the children were using. Sometimes, the children wake up at night screaming from their sleep and unable to go back to sleep. Things were getting worse and they needed God's help. We prayed and I believe the good report of this family's transformation is forth coming to the glory of God!

Beloved, the words you speak have dynamite power. Whether you speak negative or positive words, your words carry power. The reason why this is the case is because that is how God made you and I.  We are creative beings with creative power. Once you become a child of God, the Holy Spirit multiplies your creative power. This does not negate reality or give place to unfounded faith. In Genesis 1:27, we see a preposition right before the declaration of what God did. It states, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them”. A preposition expresses a relation to another word or element in a clause.  The word, “so” expresses a relation to what God did in the previous verse (26). God made man in His likeness and gave man dominion power. The psalmist is known to create an atmosphere of beauty and worship with his words. He writes in Psalm 145:21 (NRSV), “My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD, and all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever.”

Recognizing how powerful our words are, gives us a deeper and keener awareness to the presence of God that lives inside of us. It gives us a keener awareness to the Holy Spirit. The more you are aware of the presence of God and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the more you become aware of the creative power of your words.  In fact your words set the course of your day, week and life. Your words set the course of your outcome. This is how powerful God has made you. Our church is in a series on the Holy Spirit and you cannot imagine how elated I am that our pastor has dedicated the first part of the year to teach on the Holy Spirit. We need the Holy Spirit, without Him, we are helpless and defeated.

As the new year unfolds, be more cognizant of what you are saying. Be more cognizant of your daily surrender to the workings of the Holy Spirit. As you continue in this practice, you will release on the inside a storehouse of power, wisdom, discernment and alignment to the purposes of God for your life and that of your family.
